Baby Care Basics

The birth of a new baby is indeed a joy for everyone involved. From finding a great name, to the color of the babies eyes, we excitedly anticipate the event for at least nine months. Careful preparation goes into each detail of what will be needed to take care of the new arrival.

Frequently, the one thing that is not carefully planned for this event, is the expense budget. Without a budget, many spend what eventually becomes a ridiculous amount of money. What must be considered is how this will impact the infant’s future, and that of the entire family.

Many purchases that are generally made may in fact be eliminated. This will leave more cash available for the future, when it will be seriously needed.

Baby photos are a good example. Just about every hospital offers these expensive, not always quite so adorable photo packages. The truth of the matter is that just about any parent with a decent camera can achieve equal quality, and frequently even better photos, at a fraction of the cost. Definitely pay attention to ads that read: For sale digital camera. You may find a great deal.

What about the changing table? Why do people still buy these? This is indeed a large expense for an item that will be used so infrequently. A lot of people purchase a changing table because they believe it completes the nursery, and then never even use it. What a waste of hard earned cash.

Many nurseries are filled with items that are suitable for a newborn, when in fact the baby does not sleep in his own room for the first several months of life. More than a few parents prefer to keep a newborn infant nearby in their own bedroom.

Certainly a baby will eventually be moved to his or her own room to sleep for the entire night. New parents should be sure to have a baby monitor at this point. A wireless baby monitor is an excellent choice, as is can be easily moved from room to room. Many can even be heard out into the yard. This will give peace of mind in knowing that the baby’s cries will not go unheard.

Any seasoned parent will tell you that the greatest expense at this point will be diapers. Choosing cloth diapers may be an excellent alternative to expensive disposable ones. A crib, clothing, (not too much, babies grow quickly), a few baby bath toys, a car seat, and a simple stroller will be just about all the basics that are needed.

Keep in mind, as excited as you are, this is only the beginning. The expenses will continue. So exercise self control, and spend wisely.
