There are a variety of sizes available so you can get one big enough to put other things in it as well, if you so desire. If you are going out for the day and want to take a book, a camera, sunscreen, etc. There is no need to take along yet another bag.

They come in a lot of styles as well. You can get a simple style if that is your preference. But you can also opt for something in more of a designer diaper bag variety. Some of these backpacks can be converted into shoulder bags if you are not sure which you want or would like to have both options.
