Today’s Sophisticated Baby Monitors Give You Peace of Mind

3rd March 2010 by Babies No Comments

Several things regarding looking after babies haven’t changed for several thousand years. But, happily, technology has improved one facet significantly. Baby monitors allow for remote watching and listening that provides security and safety for the baby and confidence for moms and dads.

Not surprisingly, because consumer electronics have developed to such an extent over the last 10-20 years, baby monitors are now likewise more advanced. Quite a few have become a blend of security camera/TV, microphone and speaker, and computer all rolled into one. Not only do they offer the basic audio and/or visual ability that’s basic to any baby monitor, however with extra motion sensors and other features they boost security and safety well ahead of preceding models.

The most straightforward styles offer simply sound. They’re primarily a microphone that sends sound to a speaker in another room. But even these low-end varieties can make it that much more handy and beneficial than previous models. The speaker, for starters, no longer is merely a little box that sits on a table. It can be in the form of a cell phone style unit that is easily transported on the belt or in a pocket.

More high-priced but more useful varieties add a visual option. The camera is concentrated on the baby’s nursery or bed. Here also, the receiving unit can be of one of two basic kinds. The less costly kinds feature a compact television-style receiver that can be conveniently situated on a living room table or kitchen countertop. Others are a mobile monitor the size of a cell phone.

Another feature that has improved a great deal over the years is the range. Just like with portable telephones, higher frequency baby monitors now allow the receiver and transmitter to be much farther apart than in earlier times. No longer limited to a few yards distant within the house, the mobile receiver can be set up everywhere outdoors where your phone will reach. Just like telephones, interference is nearly a distant memory, also.

Yet other models feature computer and Internet technology. These models can send out audio-video to your computer in the house or at work miles away. While not designed to permit parents to leave a baby unsupervised, it makes it easy for the parent at work to know right away what the one at home hears or sees.

Still more highly developed units can be found that sense the baby’s motions and emit a warning when they reach certain parameters of distance or force. That’s highly helpful for babies who are a bit fidgety when sleeping or when you want to know when they are waking up.

Physically watching your baby around the clock is almost an impossibility. Fortunately, baby monitors have come along to help to fill the gap. These days there is even a video baby monitor, so you can not only hear but see your little one.
