Moses Basket, Carrycot, Hammock Or Crib For The Baby

7th April 2011 by Babies No Comments

You will have a lot of choice when it comes to where you are going to put your baby to sleep for the first few months. You can buy a Moses basket, a crib, a carrycot or a hammock; however as you will be using these for a short time, you can also buy them second hand or borrow them from friends or relatives.

Moses Basket

The Moses basket is a very popular choice for newborn babies as they are cozy and lightweight and the baby will feel very secure in this. Many Moses baskets are made from palm or maize but there are some which are made from wicker; this is more expensive but will last much longer. A Moses basket will come with handles on the side so they can be carried around and they will have a mattress, bedding and a hood. This bed will be cozy and secure for the baby but is not suitable for babies over the age of about two months so it can work out quite expensive.

Carrycots

A lot of people will choose a carrycot for their baby’s first bed. Some carrycots will come included with a pushchair so this makes then quite handy to use. The only problem with a carrycot is that the mattress may not be adequate for the baby to sleep on at night time. It may be the case that you have to purchase a separate mattress to ensure that it is firm enough to support the baby.

Cribs

A crib is also a great place to put your baby to sleep as they are so comfortable and safe. Babies seem to love the rocking or swaying motion that a crib provides and this is one of the reasons many people choose these items.

A crib is a better investment than a Moses basket, as you can easily use it for four to six months. But the lack of portability and the price will mean that many others will prefer to go for the Moses Basket.

Hammocks

A baby hammock is similar to any other hammock in that it is simply a sling hanging from a metal frame. It comes with sheets, mattress and a mattress cover, and can be gently rocked to make your baby sleep. The disadvantages of the hammock are that they are not really widely available, can only be used for a couple of months and they are quite expensive.

As most dads and moms know only too well, having a baby is an high priced business. When the baby makes the decision it’s time to pop into the world, the bank balance well and truly opens for a whole host of things, including baby high chairs and what ever accessories come with them. Make sure you take into account one of the leading makes in baby accessory companies, like Keekaroo booster seats. There are other things for kids that are classed as a must-have, including Inglisina high chairs.
