Bringing The Right Stuff Into A Relationship
Posted by Babies - 26/03/10 at 03:03 amBringing the right stuff into a relationship will be important 100% of the time, and though just about every relationship brings stuff to it, whether it’s physical or more intangible, just about every marriage professional says that it’s important for both in the relationship to decide what stuff eventually enters it. This is as true for furniture as it is for children.
For the guys, what this means is that one shouldn’t continue to think that one can just go out and buy that new 17 foot powerboat without consulting about the finances with the significant other in the relationship. The relationship road is strewn with the figurative dead bodies of men who have made such an unwise decision as buying a new boat without checking with the wife first, sad to say.
Or maybe the man was once a pretty good musician and plays a mean guitar from the southpaw (left) side of the plate. He might want that brand-new $4000 left handed electric guitar but if he’s not working hand-in-hand with his significant other in the relationship to figure out just when the right time is to buy it he’s going to really get himself hurt, and hopefully not in more than a physical sense.
This is why relationships seem to work best when two people can discuss all of the things that they’d like to accumulate. Another good example is deciding on interior decor and appointments. For the kitchen, it may be that the old oven is still extremely serviceable but a new GE oven is extremely desirable. However, figuring out the difference between wants and needs will be more important than ever before buying one.
Things really begin to get complicated when babies start entering into the mix that makes up a relationship. When it comes to children, every decision takes on a great deal of importance, right down to deciding the brand of stroller (Graco stroller?) that the little nipper will ride around in when he or she has a ‘baby’s day out’ adventure. If you are a guy, never make the decision about baby things without your relationship mate.
The thing about relationships is that all of them take work, though it also takes work to even get to the reason for why they require effort if they are to succeed over the long run. It’s great to have a lot of good stuff in a relationship but one that is founded upon purely material things will never last as long as one that is founded on the more intangible things like respect, love and appreciation.
In the end, relationships and accumulating the right things should be more about accumulating the right intangible things such as respect, admiration and even love. After those three things have been gathered it then becomes much easier to work on accumulating all of the good little toys that men and women seem to want to bring to any relationship, so remember what the aim is when going into a new pairing.
